Cara Davis, MD

Internal Medicine Physician, Med One Medical Group
Medical Review Officer and Substance Abuse Expert

As a board-certified physician seeing patients day-to-day in a primary care clinic, Dr. Cara Davis understands the vital importance of access to excellent healthcare and the enormous benefits to a patient’s overall well-being. Her dedication to patients extends beyond the clinic and into the corporate world, where she consults as an on-site company medical director, writing policies and overseeing the health and well-being of staff.

She advocates for patients outside the exam room as well. A member of a major North Carolina health insurer’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, she works with other independent community physicians and pharmacists to assess and update the health insurance company’s formulary list of medicines. Her insights ensure patients have access to safe and effective FDA-approved drugs, are not limited in their choices of medications for a condition, and receive the coverage benefits and standards of practice they deserve.

Her expertise extends beyond internal medicine; it also encompasses mental and behavioral health. She is a certified expert in substance abuse, with a deep understanding of its pharmacology and toxicology, as well as the potentially devastating human and business impacts. In this capacity, she consults with a variety of businesses and organizations as a Medical Review Officer, providing confidential, independent analyses of positive results of tests for illicit drugs and substances, to assure fairness and accuracy for all parties.

Dr. Davis has worked in the medical field for more than 30 years. She achieved her MD at the  University of Virginia in Charlottesville, studied epidemiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and took an occupation medicine mini-residency at the University of California in San Francisco.  She is well-versed in the medical and well-being issues facing her community, helping provide insights into the 2020 flu season for a regional television station and delivering expert perspectives on the topics of aging in the workforce, the new face of wellness, and fatigue in the workplace. She has a long history of working with–and for–patients and is dedicated to their wholeness, safety, and access to healthcare.
